Where are the maps?

Just west of Tannersville turn south onto Bloomer Road and follow this until the road splits. Bear left toward Platte Clove and then turn left on Clum Hill Road. This road ascends and makes a sharp bend to the left. At the bend go straight ahead on Gillespie Road. Be careful and proceed slowly as this road deteriorates rapidly! Go all the way to then end and park on the left near the split rail fence and DEP access signs. From here head almost straight ahead on and old woods road. Follow this for a while and then turn east and cross a small stream. Now your route is a true bushwhack to the east and slightly south. The hike becomes steeper as you approach the summit. Once on top wander around until you find the highest spot. You may now return the way you came or attempt to bushwhack to Kaaterskill High Peak. To get to KHP descend off the east to southeast side of Roundtop but be careful to avoid the highest ledges. The descent will be as steep as the ascent! Once in the Col be sure to stay on the bridge that connects the two peaks without dropping elevation to the north or south. soon you will be climbing up Kaaterskill. This is a relatively easy bushwhack with only a few ledges to avoid. What does make it harder is the thick balsam you may run into depending on your choice of routes. Near the summit you should run into several herd paths. To return to your car you may retrace your steps or descend to the north and try using the snowmobile loop to return to just west of Roundtop. From here you can bushwhack back to the parking area. The problem is that the snowmobile trails are usually VERY wet and muddy. Another choice would be to spot another car at the Platte Clove parking area and hike out to it.
